The construction of the installation is based on an electroacoustic method of stereophony using two sound emission channels, which to some extent enables the creation of a spatial impression of the sound sources. On two steel frames arranged within the exhibition space, I installed rigid elements specifically adapted to these structures, which simultaneously act as sources of acoustic emission through the placement of vibration exciters. Evenly hissing, metallic but soft-sounding recordings of natural surroundings are rhythmically disturbed by mechanical solenoids playing a simple musical composition, a single, repetitive passage.
In the installation, I used a digital interface that allowed me to include sound modules in the circuit which transmit settings for the intervals between the electromagnetic coil strikes, thus enabling control over the tempo of their performance. This allows the mechanical-sound behavior of the installation to be “tuned” to a given exhibition space, both in terms of the intensity of the field recording playback and the tempo of the “performance” of the video score by the mechanical instruments. The sound modules connected in the circuit are not concealed—in fact, they become part of the installation.
